The promise of the Spirit

Before the Day of Pentecost the emphasis was on the word “ask”. “If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more shall your Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?” (Luke 11:13)

After Pentecost the emphasis was on the word “receive”. In his powerful sermon that day, Peter said: “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38)

This is the good news; we are no longer waiting for the Holy Spirit – He is waiting for us. We are no longer living in a time of promise, but in the days of fulfilment.”
